About the map

Kino der Toten (“Theater of the Dead”) launched with Call of Duty: Black Ops in November 2010 as the Zombies map everyone started on: an abandoned theater outside Berlin that hides a Group 935 facility, with Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo and Richtofen back in the lead roles. It introduced the Nova gas crawlers that burst into a cloud, brought the hellhound rounds back, and put Pack-a-Punch behind a teleporter that links the stage to a projector room above the lobby. Perk-a-Colas, traps, the Mystery Box and a bigger arsenal all return.

The version here follows the remaster in Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s Zombies Chronicles, which added GobbleGum machines to the map. Wall buys start with the M14 and Olympia in the lobby and reach the MP40, MPL, AK74u and Stakeout deeper in, and the box can hand you the Ray Gun or the Thundergun.

How it plays here

Choose Kino on the Solo or Co-op screen, or use the Play button above. The round scaling, dog rounds, crawlers, teleporter, traps, perks and Pack-a-Punch are all in. Hellhound rounds start between rounds 5 and 7 and come back every few rounds; killing the last dog drops a Max Ammo. To use the teleporter, turn the power on, hold Use on the stage pad to start the link, then run to the mainframe in the lobby and hold Use again. Traps need power, cost points each use and cool down afterwards. Your first GobbleGum each round costs 500 points and the price climbs.

Kino is an unranked public beta and a large map: the first visit downloads about half a gigabyte, with a progress bar and a time estimate while you wait. Your browser keeps the files, so later visits load far faster. It plays solo or with up to three friends over an invite link, with voice chat built in, and runs in Chrome, Edge or Firefox with WebGL 2, Chromebooks included (use the Low graphics tier). Phones and tablets get a handoff page: the game needs a keyboard and mouse or a controller.

Controls

Every key can be remapped in Settings, and a controller takes over the moment you press a button on it.

Questions

Why is the first load so big?

Kino ships far more geometry, textures and audio than the bunker, about half a gigabyte compressed. The game shows real download progress and a time estimate, and your browser caches the files, so the second visit is quick.

Is Kino ranked?

Not yet. It is a public beta, so scores stay off the ranked boards while bugs are fixed. Send feedback from the main menu or on Discord.

How does the teleporter work?

With the power on, hold Use on the stage pad to start the link, then run to the mainframe in the lobby and hold Use to finish it. Ride from the stage pad; the trip ends in the Pack-a-Punch room.

Is this the official game?

No. It is a fan-made remake. Call of Duty, Black Ops and Kino der Toten belong to Activision and Treyarch; this project is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
